The North Carolina State Health Plan has announced a partnership with Hello Heart to improve heart health for members in rural communities. According to the State Treasurer Brad Briner's office, the program will provide eligible members with connected blood pressure monitors and an app to track blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, and activity. The app also includes medication reminders and allows members to share reports with their healthcare providers.

The initiative is aimed at up to 55,000 rural members employed by selected organizations who may face barriers to accessing care. Thomas Friedman, Executive Administrator of the State Health Plan, noted that many members in rural areas struggle with healthcare access.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., with costs projected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2050. Federal, state, and local government organizations have begun adopting programs like Hello Heart to help prevent the disease and reduce expenses.

Maayan Cohen, CEO and co-founder of Hello Heart, said the company is committed to supporting members in North Carolina’s rural communities and highlighted the importance of early engagement to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
