College football season is upon us once again, and Ohio State University isn't holding back on delivering fanfare as they gear up to battle the University of Texas Longhorns this Saturday at the Ohio Stadium. Those who can't make it to the game—or who want a little extra Buckeye spirit—will be happy to hear that OSU's Office of Marketing and Communications is bringing the pregame Skull Session back to the masses via a livestream, now in its fifth year. Featuring the renowned Ohio State University Marching Band, the Skull Session will be available on phones, tablets, and laptops for fans everywhere, as announced on OSU News.
Accessible through the Ohio State News YouTube channel, the Skull Session livestream kicks off, literally and figuratively, with the band marching into the arena to "Fanfare for a New Era," signaling that it's nearly time for the football team's grand entrance. It will harness a battalion of seven cameras and multiple microphones that, according to Director of National Broadcast Media Joe Camoriano, are set to capture the excitement from all angles. "We’re excited to be back for our fifth season of livestreaming Skull Session. We are bringing back our popular guest interviews as well as the flag giveaways," Camoriano told OSU News.
The tradition, which evolved from a simple final music rehearsal to a full-blown pregame event, shows the depth of Buckeye pride. Fans who arrive three hours before kickoff might fill St. John Arena quickly, eager to claim their spot for one of Ohio State's defining game day experiences. The livestream, a digital window into this tradition, offers a front-row seat for fans near and far to partake in the pregame festivities.
Doors to the Skull Session in St. John Arena open three hours before kickoff, and after rallying the fans with speeches from coach Ryan Day, his assistants, and players, the band will perform a final run-through of its pregame and halftime shows, as captured by Camoriano's carefully choreographed technological setup. "If you tune in 2 1/2 hours before kickoff of each home game, you’ll get to see one of the best fan experiences in the country," noted Camoriano, pointing to the return of legacy elements like the guest interviews and the flag giveaways to augment the viewing experience, in his conversation with OSU News.
