The Orlando National Weather Service has issued several advisories as Florida prepares for continued rough weather conditions. According to their latest forecast, a High Surf Advisory is in effect for all east central Florida beaches through this evening. Beach-goers should expect large breaking waves of 5-7 feet and minor beach erosion. Additionally, there's a high risk of deadly rip currents that are expected to persist into the weekend, urging residents and tourists to avoid entering the ocean.
The area is also gearing up for increased shower and storm activity with chances pegged at about 60-70% during the afternoon and early evening hours in the coming days. As Hurricane Erin drifts further into the Atlantic, the region is experiencing an uptick in moisture that could lead to scattered to numerous showers and storms developing and moving eastward each afternoon. Despite the storms, it remains hot and humid with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values nearing, but generally remaining below, Heat Advisory criteria.
Going into the weekend, offshore flow will continue due to a frontal system stalling across north Florida. In terms of precipitation, the marine forecast suggests that a front will maintain poor to hazardous boating conditions, particularly over the Gulf Stream, where seas could persist at up to 6 feet. For inland areas, there's an increased threat of locally heavy rainfall with some stronger storms, especially into Sunday. Rain will remain high (up to 70%) throughout the weekend and into early next week, likely affecting storm coverage across the eastern side of the Florida peninsula.
Ahead of this weather activity, the aviation forecast indicates a fairly quiet morning but suggests higher storm coverage by afternoon, especially for coastal terminals between 20Z-01Z. "Gusty winds to 25-35 KT and frequent lightning will be the primary hazards," states the National Weather Service. Current forecasts for Orlando reflect high temperatures in the mid-90s with considerable chances of rain and thunderstorms. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take precautions during these turbulent conditions.
