Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently made his way to the IBEW Local 163 JATC Electrical Training Center in Luzerne County, taking a moment to shine a spotlight on his administration's hefty investment in workforce development. It's all about progression — preparing the Keystone State workers for a future that's looking brighter by the dollar. As reported by PAcast, Shapiro's team claims more than $25.2 billion in private sector commitments, a financial injection poised to churn out over 11,200 jobs statewide.
According to PAcast, during a visit to a training center in Luzerne County, Governor Shapiro emphasized the importance of multiple pathways to success. "There are many paths to success—whether it's college, the military, an apprenticeship, or going straight into a job—and in Pennsylvania, we're making sure every one of those paths is open and accessible," he said. The visit coincides with Amazon Web Services’ announcement of a $20 billion investment in AI and cloud computing campuses in Salem Township, a move aimed at expanding technology and workforce development in the region.
Pennsylvania is investing $10 million in vocational and technical training programs to expand opportunities for residents across the state. According to PAcast, the state was ranked among the top three in Code for America’s July 2025 Government AI Landscape Assessment, highlighting its readiness to support AI-related initiatives and workforce development.
At a speech to IBEW Local 163, Governor Shapiro highlighted investments in vocational-technical education, career and technical education (CTE), and apprenticeship programs. "We've increased our investments in vo-tech, CTE, and apprenticeships by 50 percent so that more Pennsylvanians have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed," Shapiro said. According to PAcast, His administration has also partnered with unions to expand apprenticeship opportunities and develop a skilled workforce across the state.
