Pinellas County is seeking a civically involved resident to fill a volunteer position on the Value Adjustment Board. Announced in a recent post on the county’s website, the two-year term will begin on January 1, 2026. The selected individual will participate in discussions related to property appraisals, an area of growing significance as property values rise and tax-related concerns increase.
The Value Adjustment Board serves as the final authority when property owners dispute issues with the property appraiser, including exemptions, valuations, and classifications. The appointed citizen must own a homestead property within the county and will serve on a board that meets annually to hold hearings on assessments and exemptions. Applications for this important position must be submitted by 3 p.m. on November 12.
According to the Pinellas County government announcement, the Value Adjustment Board meets within a 30 to 60-day window after assessment rolls are sent out by the Department of Revenue. It's also responsible for convening before the 25th day to address homestead exemption complaints and to resolve exemption-related disputes. Their decisions, critical in upholding the balance in property-related grievances, are issued within 20 days of their last meeting.
The board consists of two members from the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners, one School Board member, and two citizen representatives, combining government officials and community voices. Applications for those interested in participating in property tax decisions are available on the Pinellas County website.
