Drivers should prepare for changes to traffic patterns as Progress Boulevard is scheduled to close for a drainage improvement project. The closure will extend from South 78th Street to South 85th Street, including South 82nd Street, and is set to begin on August 4. The work is expected to last for up to 60 days and will affect a commonly used section of roadway.
The closure aligns with the ongoing Progress Village Regional Drainage project, which addresses stormwater management issues in the area. According to information from Hillsborough County, the project involves installing new stormwater drains beneath Progress Boulevard and adjacent side streets. It also includes the replacement of drainage inlets and outfalls, along with the construction of a new dry stormwater pond located south of Endive Avenue and east of South 82nd Street, near the Archie Creek area. These infrastructure updates are intended to improve water runoff management and reduce the risk of flooding.
Residents navigating around the construction will have clear detour information, as navigation apps have been updated with the new traffic patterns. Officials are advising drivers to use alternative routes including 78th Street, Causeway Boulevard, U.S. 301 South, and Progress Boulevard.
The road is scheduled to reopen in early October, and officials state that the drainage enhancements aim to improve conditions for the community.
