As the summer heat intensifies, the annual Project REACH Senior Expo has returned, offering valuable assistance to senior citizens grappling with their utility bills; this year's expo, sponsored by United Way of Southern Nevada and NV Energy, commenced at the Palace Station Casino today, according to KTNV.
More than 1,800 seniors benefited from last year's outreach, and this year's attendees stand to gain up to $300 per household for a single utility bill and, for eligible Southwest Gas customers, an additional opportunity exists in the form of the Energy Share Assistance, which amounts up to $250, and alongside the financial aid, NV Energy's Power Shift Team is present to guide seniors through energy efficiency programs that could further lead to cost savings as Angel Williams from NV Energy elucidated "It helped out a lot, whole lot," Daniett Mackey, an attendee, mentioned the relief they experienced, "We had like four or five months that we didn't have to pay. That means a little bit more food in the house and other little things that we can do," in a statement obtained by KTNV.
The expo is not a one-day affair; locations across the Valley will host this event, including the upcoming ones at Aliante Casino & Hotel, and Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, with dates extending into late August, offering multiple chances for seniors to avail the support on offer; a complete list of dates and locations can be found on the United Way of Southern Nevada's website.
Setting the stage for successful assistance, the expo attendees need to come prepared with not just the evidences of their identity and residence but also proof of earnings, be it from social security, employment or any recent banking activity, and while the goal is to alleviate the financial burdens on our seniors, certain criteria hold—including the necessity for a past due utility bill and income eligibility guidelines, which are detailed on the United Way of Southern Nevada's event page, outlines that individuals must be aged 62 or older, possess a past due utility bill and meet specific income guidelines, detailed in a structure accommodating various household sizes.
For those unable to attend the expos in person, Project REACH's helping hand stretches beyond the bounds of these specific dates, as assistance programmes are accessible throughout the year, a comforting reassurance craftily woven into the organization's safety net; additional information about ongoing support is readily available, too, for those who seek it on their website.
