A raccoon found in the Jarrettsville area of Harford County has been identified as rabid by the Harford County Health Department, posing a potential threat to residents and their pets. The raccoon, discovered on the 4000 block of Federal Rd, was confirmed to have the rabies virus, as reported by WMAR2-News. Persons in the area who've come into contact with a raccoon, or those whose pets have, are advised to reach out to the County Health Department for further instructions.
The situation grew more concerning when NottinghamMD confirmed a second case of a rabid raccoon in Harford County, marking the second occurrence of this nature in 2025. Not only raccoons but also a rabid groundhog was previously identified in the Monkton area, indicating a potentially broader wildlife health issue. Health officials have emphasized that simply sighting a raccoon should not cause alarm, but they urge that any physical contact must be followed up with a call to the Health Department.
