
A Macomb County man is facing animal cruelty charges following an incident that drew public attention and police intervention. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Corbin Charles Sutton from Romeo, MI, was accused of beating and dragging a dog on Sunday. Calls to 911 were placed around 9:35 a.m., reporting the distressing scene on Van Dyke near Springbrook Estates in Bruce Township.
Upon arriving at the location, authorities located Sutton on Michael Avenue inside the mobile home park, where they attempted a traffic stop. During the arrest, Sutton became combative and, in doing so, damaged a Macomb County Sheriff's Office vehicle, as Michigan State Police confirmed to ClickOnDetroit. The dog involved was taken to a veterinary clinic for emergency care and is expected to make a recovery.
Following the arrest, Sutton was arraigned with a $25,000 cash bond for one count of animal cruelty. Information provided by CBS News Detroit indicates that the suspect was lodged at Macomb County Jail, pending prosecutor review of the incident. The court appearance for Sutton is expected to take place on August 19 at 9 a.m.
The dog, surrendered to Macomb County Animal Control, will require surgery and post-operative care, indicating the severity of its injuries. The public has been invited to contribute to the care of this dog or support Macomb County Animal Control via their website, which has seen residents expressing concern and stepping in to aid in the dog's recovery.
