The City of Sacramento is intensifying its efforts to manage the homelessness crisis, as shown in a recent report covering actions taken from August 4 through last Sunday. According to Sacramento City Express, the city received 726 calls related to unsheltered individuals, resulting in 2,044 "cases" for the City's Incident Management Team (IMT) to address.

The increase in cases, introduced as a new data category on July 28, reflects the city’s effort to keep the public informed about its homelessness strategies and improvements to the 311 reporting system. The report explains that the total number of cases opened refers to the count of cases generated from homelessness-related calls during the reporting period, which can be higher than the number of calls because a single call may lead to multiple cases.

As indicated by the IMT's work, 1,010 of these cases were resolved, with underlying issues either addressed, brought into compliance, or determined to be nonexistent after inspection by city staff. Additionally, the City’s Department of Community Response enrolled 83 individuals into shared databases that link them to local shelters and other essential services, reported Sacramento City Express.

Additionally, 34 individuals were placed in two city facilities: the Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC). As of last Tuesday, no pallet homes or trailers were available at the Roseville Road site, and only two spaces remained open at the OEC. Excluding city-operated shelters, there was an average of 24 available spots for those in need. In other efforts, the City also removed approximately 92,040 pounds of trash.

In sync with transparency and community engagement, a data dashboard exists, enabling the public to track the progress made by the IMT weekly, looking back to September 2023.
