Long Beach homicide detectives have reportedly made an additional arrest in connection to the murder of Chamrong Sok, who was fatally assaulted earlier this year. The second suspect, identified as 36-year-old Brandon Brewington of Long Beach, was already in custody on unrelated charges before being arraigned for murder yesterday. Investigators are continuing to work out the motives behind the incident that took place on March 11, as per an update from the Long Beach Police Department.

The initial suspect, Thongsay Ky, a 58-year-old individual experiencing homelessness, was arrested on July 2 inside his vehicle. Detectives have linked both Ky and Brewington to what they believe was a physical confrontation with Sok. Despite the progress in the case, detailed reasons behind the altercation have yet to be fully determined. Anyone with information has been encouraged to come forward.

Chamrong Sok, also experiencing homelessness and 52 years of age at the time of his death, was found with upper body injuries and transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to a hospital. Sok was uncooperative with officers when asked about the details of the attack, which he indicated occurred in a parking lot on Anaheim Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department. After succumbing to his injuries on April 24, the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner officially ruled his death a homicide on May 22. The case will soon be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
