In a significant crackdown on a sophisticated Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO), the Simi Valley Police Department, alongside federal agents, arrested five people on an array of felony charges. The pre-dawn raid on August 7 saw the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and several specialized units, including SWAT and K-9, operationalize across multiple locations in the San Fernando Valley. The operation also received assistance from the DEA's Ventura Office and its Special Response Team.
Launched in response to intelligence gathered since March 2024, the operation targeted locations in North Hollywood, Van Nuys, and Northridge. With thousands of hours clocked in surveillance, the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies led to the apprehension of the suspects thought to be distributing narcotics in several counties. These included fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin, visiting the city of Simi Valley daily, according to a statement obtained by the Simi Valley Police Department.
The five arrested individuals are facing charges for possession and transportation of controlled substances for sale, and conspiracy. Arrestees Jorge M. Chavez, Angel Omar Garcia, Arturo Julio Sanchez, Victor Manuel Correa, and Jorge Valdivia were all booked into the Ventura County Main Jail. Recovered during the raid were 22 pounds of fentanyl, over 18 pounds of methamphetamine, 4.5 pounds of heroin, multiple counterfeit oxycodone pills, and cocaine, alongside $129,700 in cash, suspected to be from narcotic sales.
Underlining the raid's relevance, the DEA highlighted the lethality of fentanyl, with just 2 milligrams being potentially fatal – the 22 pounds seized translate into approximately 5 million lethal doses. The total worth of all the narcotics seized is estimated to be around $1.4 million, which serves as a sobering reminder of the magnitude of the drug crisis faced by communities.
