The St. Augustine City Commission has approved an increase in penalties for illegal parking. According to the City of St. Augustine’s official website, Ordinance 2025-22, passed on Monday, raises fines from $35 to $100. The new penalties apply to violations such as parking on yellow curbs, blocking driveways, fire hydrants, or loading zones.
The change addresses concerns that the previous fine amount was not effective in discouraging illegal parking. Some drivers had continued to park unlawfully despite available legal spaces, parking lots, and shuttle services.
To inform the public, the city will first issue warnings before enforcing the ordinance beginning October 1.
Officials noted that illegal parking can obstruct traffic and hinder emergency response when vehicles block road access. The increase in fines is intended to improve accessibility for residents, visitors, and emergency personnel.
