After receiving a bomb threat this morning, Creekside High School in St. Johns County was searched by law enforcement and eventually cleared for return. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office (SJSO) had a significant presence at the high school following a bomb threat that was reported at 8:19 a.m., according to a statement released by the school district.
The deputies, along with K-9 units, conducted a thorough search of the premises. Despite the intensity of the situation, the SJSO's sweep found nothing out of the ordinary. "Nothing concerning" was located during the search, the SJSO stated. The school reopened and students, as well as staff members, were able to slowly return to the campus, as reported by the First Coast News.
Action News Jax reported the official update at 10:13 a.m. that police had cleared the area. Subsequently, the St. Johns County School District also confirmed the reopening of the high school.
For a brief period, buses with students who had arrived at school were held offsite until law enforcement was to satisfactorily secure the campus, News4Jax detailed. Once the all-clear was issued, those buses transported the students back to school, resuming classes for the day. The scare came just a day after the start of the new academic year, adding an unsettling beginning to the 2025-2026 school term.
Officials have not shared information regarding potential suspects or motives behind the threat. The investigation into the source and credibility of the bomb threat continues, keeping up with the commitment to maintain a safe school environment for all those attending and working at Creekside High School.
