Baltimore residents can expect mostly stable weather conditions for the rest of this week, thanks to a persistent high-pressure system off the New England coastline. The National Weather Service has noted that we're going to see "isolated light pop-up showers" during peak heating hours today and tomorrow. Still, otherwise, it should remain "mostly cloudy and dry." Folks might want to grab an umbrella just in case, but don't expect to use it much.

Heading into the weekend, the forecast sounds like a perfect backdrop for any outdoor plans. As the high pressure becomes centered overhead, we're, unfortunately, going to have to deal with some layers of stratus—which could lead to development of fog tonight and Friday night. According to the National Weather Service, some areas of fog are possible early Saturday." So, early risers might need to navigate through some misty conditions.

As for the long-term outlook, don't expect any drastic changes coming into the new week. The high pressure over southern Quebec and off the New England coast is predicted to buckle while shunting south and west into the region, providing a dry end to the weekend with near-normal temperatures. The only blip on the radar might be rain chances in southern Maryland and central Virginia at less than a 15 percent chance. So for those living in Baltimore, it looks like you can keep those rain boots tucked away for now.

What you'll want to prepare for, however, is the heat and humidity coming our way as we kick off the next work week. The ridging building over the southeastern U.S. is going to usher in a more tropical climate with south to southwesterly flow to return off the Gulf. The Weather Service warns that this will cause temperatures to warm back above normal. It appears we'll start to feel the summer heat sticking around, with temperatures expected in the upper 80s and low 90s on Monday, and mid-90s from Tuesday through Thursday next week. And with heat indices approaching 100 degrees, staying cool and hydrated will be key.

For mariners, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect through Friday evening due to stronger winds from the east. But the weekend promises more tranquil conditions and lighter winds. Do be mindful, though, of minor coastal flooding threats with high astronomical tides expected this weekend, particularly for areas like Annapolis and possibly Dahlgren/Alexandria, where full moon effects are anticipated to be more pronounced.
