Residents of a Studio City apartment complex have taken matters into their own hands after repeated mail theft incidents led to a physical confrontation with the alleged perpetrator. Sarkis Yaralyan, 42, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and multiple mail theft allegations, following a raid at his North Hollywood residence by the Los Angeles Police Department.

On the night of August 5, a confrontation became physical when tenants tried to confront Yaralyan about the mail thefts. According to the City News Service report, the suspect attempted to stab one of the tenants before escaping an e-scooter. The escape was, however, short-lived as his identity had already been linked to the thefts through a community chat site and later confirmed by police investigation.

LAPD officers responded to a burglary report and a subsequent attempt by the tenants to detain the suspect. It was during this call that officers learned of the stabbing attempt. "The victim advised that the suspect matched images shared on a community chat site of a mail theft burglar in the area," stated the LAPD PIO post. The suspected mail thief was later apprehended after detectives served a search warrant, during which evidence of his alleged crimes was found at his residence.

Yaralyan, now in custody, faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon, with bail set at $80,000. The Los Angeles Police Department has encouraged anyone with further information to come forward. "The investigation is ongoing, anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Van Nuys Area, Detective Houser," as per the LAPD news release via their official communication channel. With Yaralyan's arrest, the residents of Studio City can to temporarily breathe easier, knowing that one suspect has been taken off the streets.
