Henderson police, in a string of actions aimed at curbing a recent wave of burglaries, have apprehended a man they believe is connected to thefts across the Las Vegas valley, as per a report by the City of Henderson. Alexander Eduardo Hernandez, identified as the suspect, was arrested on August 7 for a series of high-end appliance burglaries targeting newly built, yet unoccupied homes in what marks a concerning trend for property crime in the region.
Details shared by the News3LV indicate that the thefts have been occurring since the beginning of the year, focusing on luxury appliances and construction materials from homes within the Cadence Community and elsewhere; Hernandez is now linked to at least 10 of these burglaries in Henderson alone, and possibly more conducted within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), where the Construction Site Theft Unit assisted in the investigation leading to the recovery of stolen goods and the suspect's apprehension.
In a collaborated effort, on August 13, Henderson detectives and the LVMPD’s Construction Site Theft Unit executed multiple search warrants at various storage units around the valley, uncovering around $25,000 worth of stolen property, which included an array of new appliances and construction material such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, dryers, and flooring as 8 News Now reported.
Hernandez, now booked into the Clark County Detention Center, faces multiple charges including residential burglary, attempted theft, and possession of a debit/credit card without the owner's consent; along with possession of burglary tools and theft, Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court on August 27.
