A Tampa man has been handed a decade-long sentence for his involvement in a cocaine distribution ring. Daniel Vega Cabrera, aged 42, will serve 10 years in the federal system after pleading guilty to the charges of possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit the same. The decision was handed down by U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.
The case against Vega Cabrera was built on a series of undercover purchases that began in July 2023 by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators uncovered a narcotics network, identifying Vega Cabrera and his co-defendants as central figures. An undercover deputy traced the chain of suppliers, starting with purchases of cocaine from Joseph White. Through this investigation, it was revealed that Vega Cabrera had distributed more than 500 grams of cocaine between July 20, 2023, and May 14, 2024.
Vega Cabrera’s sentence is influenced by his prior federal drug distribution conviction. According to court documents, his associates, Joseph White and Jose Pabon, have also entered guilty pleas and are awaiting their sentencing hearings.
Both the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration collaborated to uncover the drug distribution network operated by Vega Cabrera, White, and Pabon, with Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman handling the prosecution.
