Three workers died during sewer repair operations in Trinity County yesterday after a hydrogen sulfide gas leak in the Westwood Shores area. Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said in a Facebook update that the workers lost consciousness from the gas and could not be revived, asreported by Houston Chronicle.
A temporary shelter-in-place order was issued for a quarter-mile radius around the Westwood Shores sewer plant but was later lifted after officials confirmed the gas was contained in a manhole, Wallace stated. The victims’ names have not been released, but two were employed by H20 Innovations and one by Hydroclear Services.
H20 Innovations President and CEO Frédéric Dugré said the company is working to determine the cause of the incident and is providing support to the families and employees, according to Click2Houston.
The Montgomery County ESD 1 Dive and Technical Rescue Team assisted in recovery efforts last night, the North Montgomery County Fire Department reported. Authorities and companies involved said further details will be released as investigations continue.
