A Trenton man, Andrew Day, aged 30, faces charges after allegedly trying to engage in sexual activities with what he believed was a 15-year-old girl he met through Reddit; however, the account belonged to an undercover officer, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. Day has been charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime, as declared by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. According to authorities, Day made contact on July 14 and exchanged explicit messages and photos, believing he was interacting with a minor, as per The Detroit News.
The arrest happened on Monday when Day showed up at the planned meeting with the undercover officer. After being arraigned on Tuesday at the 37th District Court in Warren, Day now remains in custody on a $100,000 cash/surety bond. As part of his arraignment conditions, he is to avoid all contact with minors and the use of the internet; he's also prohibited from coming within 1,000 feet of places children gather—these details were specified by FOX 2 Detroit and reiterated by ClickOnDetroit.
Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated, "Our children deserve to grow up safe, free from the threat of predators," emphasizing his office's commitment to using every legal tool to protect minors and prosecute offenders, as noted by FOX 2 Detroit. Lucido's statement reflects a tough stance against online predators, further illustrated by recent similar cases in Michigan, including a Branch County man sentenced for sexual assault of a minor and a Byron Center man pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor.
Day’s case will move forward with a probable cause conference on August 26, followed by a preliminary examination on September 2, 2025, at the 37th District Court before Judge Michael Chupa. The Detroit News also reported that, as of yesterday afternoon, no attorney for Day was listed in court records.
