Following a fatal crash on I-35 in July, the San Antonio Police Department arrested two men in connection with a stolen Chevy Camaro involved in the incident. KTSA reported that Eric Perez, 21, and Matthew Espinosa, 18, were taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses. Police said the men had allegedly used the stolen Camaro to break into other vehicles in the days leading up to the crash, which killed five people.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed two men using the stolen Camaro to break into cars two days before the crash. A Flock Camera near Lowe's captured images that juvenile probation officers later used to identify Perez and Espinoza, according to KENS 5. Police said items found at the crash site were linked to an earlier vehicle burglary, connecting the men to the stolen Camaro.
On June 17, a Camaro collided with a bus, which then hit an 18-wheeler, resulting in fatalities. Witnesses said several people fled from the Camaro, with one possibly armed. San Antonio Police charged Perez with burglary of vehicles and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Espinosa with burglary of vehicles and failure to identify himself. Investigators have not confirmed if either was driving the Camaro. Stolen items found at the scene matched those reported missing from a truck days earlier. Authorities have not said if more charges will be filed, as mentioned by KENS 5.
