Commuters who frequent Maryland Parkway should brace themselves for significant delays starting on Sunday. According to a statement on the Clark County website, lane closures will be in effect from south of Desert Inn Road to just north of the Sunrise Hospital Main Entrance. This is to facilitate the demolition of a pedestrian bridge that has served the area for fifty years but has since seen its utility decline.
Those who make their evening drives down Maryland Parkway on Sunday might have to ready themselves to unexpectedly alter course. Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, all traffic will be directed to the west side of the roadway, with one lane open in each direction until Wednesday at 5 a.m. Beyond the inconvenience and the need to plan for additional travel time, this re-routing serves as a prelude to the next phase of construction work.
When Wednesday morning arrives with the dawn's light, commuters will find themselves navigating a different pattern. Traffic will shift to the east side of Maryland Parkway, again maintaining one lane open for travel north and south. This swing in lane accessibility will be in place until Friday, Aug. 15, at 5 a.m. Despite the changes, the county assures that access to the Sunrise Hospital Main Entrance, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, and local businesses will be maintained throughout the period.
It is advised that drivers should expect delays, a reliable predictability when such roadway interruptions occur. With the Clark County School District and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas schools kicking off their new year, traffic volume is projected to rise. To navigate around the bottleneck, Eastern Avenue or University Center Drive are recommended detours. For those who want to tap into technology during their commute, the free Waze app, which can be downloaded, provides real-time assistance for route planning.
