Wake Forest residents, take note of your calendars as the Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed on Sept. 1, in recognition of Labor Day. This holiday pause extends beyond the stillness of empty government buildings as the familiar hum of trash and recycling collection trucks will also be absent from your streets. In an announcement on the town's official website, officials detailed that no curbside services would be operational on the holiday, but Go Wake Forest transportation will maintain its regular schedule.
The temporary disruption, however, brings a ripple effect throughout the week. Garbage and recycling collection services will resume with a one-day delay – each day's pickup pushed a notch down the calendar and stretching the workweek to include Saturday collection. This adjustment applies to the whole range, Monday’s route collected on Tuesday, and so on until Friday's refuse is picked up on Saturday according to the Town of Wake Forest's announcement.
Yard waste will see a temporary halt as well, with services suspended on Labor Day, but set to kick back into gear first thing Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. Residents are directed to have their yard debris at the curb by that time to ensure collection, and to steer clear of any potential obstructions like mailboxes, or utility poles, when placing items out for pickup.
For those with more substantial discards, bulk pickups can still be scheduled for Sept. 3, though they could spill over into Thursday, depending on demand. The town has offered a straightforward online form for residents to arrange these pickups promptly, with a cutoff for requests at 2 p.m. Sept. 2. It is critical, to include all required details in voicemail requests – name, address, telephone number, and a description of the items for disposal. Failure to provide this information will render the service request unprocessed, the town clarified in their statement.
