In a turn of events from Macomb County, Tayassukh Ayman, a 21-year-old from Warren, has entered a guilty plea to lesser charges over a traffic accident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Mohammed Ali, also a Warren resident. According to a news release from the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, the fatal collision took place on February 25, when Ayman's vehicle struck an auto operated by Shahjahan Tamim, resulting in Ali's death and serious injuries to passenger Sanjina Mumu.
The plea bargain, coming after negotiations and notably in alignment with the victim's family's desires, resulted in the dismissal of the original felony charges against Ayman, which included Reckless Driving Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function, the former carrying a potential 15-year sentence and the latter up to five years. Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Julie Gatti accepted the plea on August 6, recognizing Ayman's admission to the misdemeanors of Moving Violation Causing Death and Moving Violation Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function in the presence his acknowledgment of wrongdoings, the families affected on both sides were looking for closure and perhaps some semblance of justice without dragging out the court process.
As reported by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, this plea deal will see Ayman serving 364 days in county jail with a subsequent two-year probation period. The sentencing is scheduled for October 1, 2025, before Judge Gatti. The Prosecutor's Office emphasized its commitment to respecting the wishes of the victim's family and achieving justice under Michigan laws.
