The best of Williamson County's workforce were spotlighted as this year's Employees of the Year. The accolades were handed out during the Commissioners Court meeting that occurred on August 12, as reported by Williamson County's Public Affairs office. Five outstanding individuals were recognized across different categories, selected from twenty-seven nominations that were reviewed by a special committee.

For Exceptional Customer Service, the award was given to Kirk Becker, who is the support services manager at EMS. Becker was lauded for encouraging a service-oriented work setting, and his dedication was singled out as making a lasting impression on his colleagues. In the Professional Leadership category, Josh Renner took home the award. He is noted for his exemplary conduct and for his part in leading the Williamson County Conservation Foundation. Renner's role is critical for overseeing monitoring, land acquisitions, and ensuring environmental compliance for the county preserves.

When it comes to WILCO Core Values Champion – Management, John Pokorny, a lieutenant at the Sheriff’s Office, was honored. Pokorny's leadership in solving cold cases, including the identification of two homicide victims from decades past, and his push to purchase their headstones, was highlighted. According to the county's announcement, he and his team undertook these efforts on their own time, which speaks to his commitment to the community.

In the category titled WILCO Core Values Champion – Non-Management, the recipient was Roger Garcia, deputy constable for Precinct 3. Described as a multifaceted officer, Garcia’s vast list of responsibilities includes court security and neighborhood patrols. Importantly, his voluntary commitment to the Teen Court program after hours was mentioned as a significant contribution to the community justice system. Lastly, the Game Changer award was nabbed by Frank Martin, an analyst III at Information Systems. Martin was celebrated for his initiative in implementing a map that directs Tax Office customers to third-party vehicle registration renewal locations—an innovation that has greatly expedited services for county residents.
