Residents of Williamson County, take note: if you were planning on handling official business at county offices on Sept. 1, you'll need to reschedule. In recognition of Labor Day, a holiday devoted to the contributions of workers, all county offices will be closed on Monday. Normal hours will resume the following day, ensuring the gears of local government keep turning without too significant an interruption.
While county workers are taking the day to rest and perhaps fire up the barbecue, one public service will not take a pause - the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. According to an announcement on Williamson County's official website, the shelter, located at 1855 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown, will stay open during its regular hours from noon to 6 p.m. for those looking to adopt a pet or needing services for their furry friends.
Those with an eye on county legislation and fiscal planning should also adjust their calendars. The Williamson County Commissioners Court will not meet on Tuesday, Sept. 2, as it usually might following a Monday holiday. Citizens keen on participating in the civic process will have to wait until the day after to have their voices heard or inquiries addressed regarding county matters.
Lastly, don't forget the changed schedule for civic engagement relating to county finances. The public hearings on the 2025-26 Williamson County Proposed Budget and Tax Rate, which originally were to take place at an earlier date, have been moved. Now, they're slated for Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. and will occur at 710 S. Main Street on the second floor in the Commissioners Courtroom in Georgetown. Citizens looking to attend should note this new time to ensure they don't miss the opportunity to learn and speak about how county funds are being allocated in the upcoming year.
