Early this morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to reports of a Major Emergency Structure Fire at a commercial building located at 2124 E Violet St in the Downtown area. The first alert from the LAFD, which came at 5:48 AM, described heavy flames pouring through the roof of the structure. Firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene, as stated in the initial LAFD alert.
As the blaze continued, 109 firefighters worked tirelessly to transition to well-coordinated defensive operations to combat the heavy flames engulfing the large one-story commercial building. According to an update by LAFD at 6:15 AM, there was a structural compromise within the building, including an apparent mezzanine collapse, though the roof impressively remained intact despite the intensity of the fire. Luckily, there were no injuries or evacuations reported during the incident.
The LAFD made significant progress quickly, reaching a knockdown of the fire by 6:32 AM, a mere 44 minutes after the initial report. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, which had spread to as many as two adjoining commercial buildings in the industrial eastside area of downtown Los Angeles. The LAFD's prompt action certainly helped to prevent further damage and potential casualties. Information regarding the knockdown was confirmed via the LAFD Knockdown report.
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, and the firefighters' efforts to quickly contain and suppress the blaze are evidence of their dedication and efficacy. While the cause of the fire is under active investigation, LAFD Public Information Captain Adam VanGerpen was scheduled to assist the media for further inquiries near the incident command post.
