
A collision in Racine involving a city bus led to 11 people being injured on Wednesday afternoon. The incident, unfolding near the intersection of 16th Street and Murray Avenue, resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old woman said to be driving the vehicle that triggered the multi-vehicle crash. As reported by WISN, authorities arrived at the scene just before 3:30 p.m to attend to the crisis.
According to the Racine Police Department, a Nissan Rogue was heading west on 16th Street when the woman lost control, crossing the center line into the opposing traffic lane. Traveling westbound on 16th Street, the Nissan subsequently collided with a Jeep Wrangler's rear, then continued spiraling until a city bus was struck. TMJ4 notes the driver of the Nissan was taken into custody and received hospital treatment.
While the specifics of how many individuals were injured on each vehicle were not released by the police, it was confirmed that all injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Surveillance footage, which caught the immediate moments leading up to and during the accident, has been aiding the police in their ongoing investigation, as per TMJ4.
On the bus, one of the passengers caught in the turmoil was David Reyes, who recounted his ride home from work when the bus experienced the sudden blow. "David Reyes was riding the bus home from work when the impact happened," detailed FOX6. Currently, the conditions of the injured parties have not been updated since the authorities' initial assessment.
