The Metropolitan Police Department recently announced the arrest of 23-year-old Faizon Mason, connected to a shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old at Union Station earlier this year. The incident, which took place on February 10, occurred near the bus waiting area and was responded to by both local law enforcement and Amtrak Police. According to MPD's report, the victim, identified as Wayne McDaniel of Northwest, DC, was found not conscious and not breathing and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that they were able to quickly provide lifesaving efforts, although the victim did not survive. After a prolonged investigation, Mason was arrested on Wednesday, following the issuance of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He is now facing charges of Second Degree Murder While Armed (Gun). Details around the motive and circumstances of the shooting have not been publicly disclosed.
The circumstances under which Mason came to be identified as a suspect were not elaborated upon by officials. The MPD’s efforts to continue to maintain a sense of safety in public spaces are certain to be scrutinized as they work to thoroughly investigate and prosecute individuals accused of violent crimes such as these. The Metropolitan Police Department has not immediately responded to requests for further comment regarding Mason's arrest or the ongoing investigation into the homicide at Union Station.
