A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County, as a 75-year-old man was killed in a car accident. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that Michael Procy was pronounced dead at the scene after his Ford F-150 pickup truck left the road and collided with several objects before coming to a halt on private property. This accident occurred at around 7:35 p.m. on Sunday evening in the 3100 block of Fourth Street, just west of Bronson Street, as reported by CBS News.
According to CBS News Detroit, Procy, a Monroe resident, was driving east on Fourth Street in his black 2023 Ford F-150 pickup when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle strayed from the road and struck several vehicles and posts. After reentering the street, the pickup veered off the pavement a second time and hit a tree. During this unfortunate chain of events, Procy was ejected from his vehicle.
While wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, and despite the deployment of multiple airbags, Procy did not survive the impact. The Ford F-150 continued moving in a counter-clockwise rotation before coming to rest, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. The crash occurred near Bronson Street, and though Procy was secured by a seat belt, factors leading to him driving off-road are still being investigated.
The aftermath of the crash saw a concerted emergency response, involving the Frenchtown Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Monroe Community Ambulance, among others. While it has been confirmed that the victim's family has been notified, it remains unclear if alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident, as indicated in a press release covered by wtol.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Traffic Services Division is handling the case. They are asking anyone with pertinent information to call 734-240-7548, or offer anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP, as per wtol.
