The Altadena Town & Country Club came back to life over the weekend as community members gathered to celebrate its reopening after January’s devastating Eaton fire. Nine months in the making, the event welcomed members and neighbors to the historic 1910 landmark for a day of reunion and celebration under the San Gabriel Valley sun.
As reported by NBC Los Angeles, Rep. Judy Chu celebrated the resilience of the club, declaring "this club is here to stay," despite the near-total destruction suffered earlier this year. In an emotional nod to the club's significance in the area, LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger spoke at the reopening event: "Today is a celebration. It's a celebration of hope and restoration and I’m in for the long haul to get this done,” Barger said.
Meanwhile, KTLA shared voices of the community, like Valerie Burns, a longtime member, who reminisced about her family's deep connection to the club, now surged with memories of swim team activities and employment as lifeguards and counselors. The reopening drew a sizable crowd, with attendance nearly doubling organizers’ expectations at about 900 members and guests.
The club's General Manager, Craig Sloan, articulated the significance of the day in a statement shared by Pasadena Now: “It’s been 235 days since I stood in that parking lot and watched helplessly as our historic clubhouse burned to the ground.” Sloan added, “This reopening represents a new chapter in our history.”
