An Amazon delivery driver's routine drop-off on San Antonio's Southwest Side turned harrowing when a dog attacked, leaving him with painful bites that required hospital treatment. KTSA reports the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. yesterday in the 600 block of East Thompson Place.
Entering the yard to deliver a package, the worker met the teeth of a German Shepherd mix. Animal Care Services told KSAT the dog bit the driver on the chest and both hands after he had left the package with the canine's guardian, who happens resident next door to the intended delivery address. The dog remaining on the property, was still the subject of two criminal citations: one for the bite and another for lack of proof of a current rabies vaccination, to the dog's guardian.
The driver, whose injuries extended to the rib area according to police statements obtained by KSAT, was taken to the hospital for further care. While specifics on his condition were not disclosed, the need for medical attention underscores the severity of the encounter. Following the incident, ACS has taken custody of the dog, initiating a 10-day quarantine.
While dealing with the aftermath, the guardian cited by police faced consequences not just for the attack but also for a lapse in responsible pet ownership. The requirement to provide proof of current rabies vaccination is a basic necessity, which, when ignored, compounds the guardian's accountability for the dog's action - biting a person who was merely at work, pointed out by the authorities during their investigation. The dog will be spending time in quarantine with ACS, as confirmed by law enforcement officials to KSAT.
