Authorities in Maryland have taken a trio of suspects into custody on charges related to the theft of copper wire in Cecil County, which caused serious disruptions to the area's communication infrastructure. The Maryland State Police confirmed the arrest of Brian Clark Tulley, 55, of Harbeson, Delaware; Stacey Lyn Tulley, 46, of Elkton, Maryland; and David Mark Fenstermaker, 62, also from Elkton, Maryland. According to a statement by the state police, they face felony theft charges in amounts ranging from $25,000 to under $100,000, along with a variety of misdemeanor theft and property destruction charges.
The arrests, made last week, follow a spate of incidents in which Verizon's copper wires were snipped from working power poles across the county, leading to the loss and damage of services worth over $66,000. This crackdown on copper theft, authorities hope, will send a clear signal to those who might consider similar criminal pursuits. As the investigations continue, the Maryland State Police are calling on the public to step forward with any information that could assist them in further cases.
