If you're planning to enjoy the outdoors in Baltimore this weekend, the weather's set to cooperate with your plans. According to the National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC, high pressure from northern New England is shifting out to sea, leaving behind a quite agreeable forecast for the region. A touch of warmth with a hint of fall crispness is to be expected as today’s temperatures are anticipated to climb into the low to mid-80s, accompanied by lots of sunshine despite a sprinkle of high clouds in the afternoon. Light south to southeast winds will provide a gentle breeze, perfect for any al fresco activities.
The NWS states we're going to see another dry and warm fall day across the region today, with overnight lows cooling down to the comfortable mid-50s to low 60s. And for those looking forward to making the most of the end of the weekend, Sunday is forecast to warm up even more, with highs expected to reach the mid to upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. Monday's outlook brings a slight eastward shift in the winds and high temperatures hovering in the low 80s, potentially giving way to more cloud cover, but remaining firmly dry.
High pressure is the weather word of the week as it seems to hold steady through to the middle of next week. This means more of the dry and comfortable conditions we've been seeing. However, attention is turning offshore to a low-pressure system with a rather uncertain future. Depending on its movements next week, it could introduce a chance for some much-needed rainfall to the area. Rain chances from the NBM increased a bit during the middle of next week, especially on Wednesday, where they are now at 20-40 percent, reports the NWS. This suggests a possibility for the occasional shower, but nothing too disruptive to outdoor plans.
For mariners, the Chesapeake Bay appears to be just as inviting. Light winds and warm conditions are on the horizon for much of the weekend and into the early parts of the week. However, sailors should be mindful of the potential for stronger easterly winds by next Tuesday and Wednesday, which could result in the need for Small Craft Advisories (SCAs) due to the pressure gradient tightening up south of the local waters. Tides and coastal flooding seem not to pose significant threats at the moment, but with a north and eastward flow setting in next week and low pressure developing off the Southeast coast, the potential for tidal flooding might just increase by mid-week.
No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in place for the DC, MD, VA, or WV areas, as per the latest bulletins from the NWS. The calm and dry conditions serve as a gentle holding pattern as we anticipate what next week's mysterious offshore presence may or may not bring to our doorsteps. In the meantime, Baltimore residents can relish the comfortable and inviting weather this weekend offers.
