Community concern grows as Sparrows Point Middle School and Baltimore County Police address an 11-year-old student's alleged "hit list," which sparked significant unease among students and parents. According to FOX Baltimore, a letter from the school last Friday vaguely mentioned the situation, stating, "we take threats seriously," but offered few details. Baltimore County Public Schools has not confirmed specifics about any disciplinary action taken, leaving many to only speculate due to privacy laws.
The young student reportedly made plans through text messages to carry out violence against 14 peers and then himself. Screenshots of these messages, highlighted by local attorney John Turnbull, have brought the matter to the forefront of community attention. "Not a single call from the school. Not a single call from police. That is an absolute abdication of their responsibility as caretakers and educators in this community to communicate those types of things," Turnbull said, per FOX Baltimore. Parents have expressed frustration over the lack of communication and worries over whether the child in question is receiving adequate mental health services.
Delving further, the Baltimore County Police statement obtained by WMAR-2 News attempted to assuage fears. "Any potential or perceived threats have been mitigated and there is no active threat," police said, noting the situation is still under investigation.
