A Bedford-Stuyvesant man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for the murder of a 26-year-old in the Tompkins Houses, the same public housing in which both men resided. The conviction springs from a violent altercation that took place back in 2023. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez called the stabbing of Stephon Sinclair a “deliberate and cold-blooded killing,” stating that justice had been served. In a statement released by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Gonzalez emphasized that violent acts of this nature will result in substantial prison time.
Waiting in the lobby on the evening of July 12, 2023, Marquis Shiloh, now 35, attacked Sinclair as he exited an elevator. Though Sinclair attempted to withdraw, Shiloh and an accomplice chased him outside. It was then Shiloh stabbed Sinclair in the legs, inflicting fatal wounds. While Sinclair was taken to Kings County Hospital, his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Shiloh, supported by his co-defendant, managed to evade capture until August 2, 2023, when the NYPD's 79th Precinct and the Brooklyn North Homicide Squad apprehended him.
After a trial that concluded on July 31, Shiloh was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter. His co-defendant, who had pled guilty to third-degree assault for her role in the incident, was sentenced earlier to a conditional discharge. The prosecution's effort, led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Aleena Peerzada and Assistant District Attorney Kaitlin Kinsella from the Blue Zone Trial Bureau, culminated in Shiloh's lengthy prison term. Presiding over the sentencing was Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo, who also ordered five years of post-release supervision for Shiloh.
