Thomas Encil Blake, a 28-year-old from Brownstown, Michigan, has been handed down a prison sentence of 228 months for the production and receipt of child pornography. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, U.S. District Judge Laurie J. Michelson delivered the sentence after Blake's involvement in creating abhorrent materials involving a six-year-old child was uncovered. In addition to the 228 months for production, Blake received a concurrent 60-month sentence for receiving child pornography.

The case against Blake began to unfold rapidly after a concerned parent discovered nude images on his 13-year-old daughter's phone back in 2023. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was promptly notified, subsequently identifying Blake in Southeast Michigan. Throughout the investigation, officers were able to eventually seize and closely examine more than 8,000 images and over 6,000 videos containing child pornography on Blake's devices, some involving infants and toddlers, as detailed in a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The heinous nature of the materials found on Blake's various devices was emphasized by U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon. "This wicked man produced the vilest materials. He committed appalling crimes against little children that were entrusted to his care. And then he was ensnared by the work of his hands. We are thankful for the justice that was delivered through this court," Gorgon stated, highlighting the betrayal of trust at the core of these crimes, per the U.S. Attorney's Office.

ICE HSI Detroit acting Special Agent in Charge Matthew Stentz echoed the sentiment, promising continued action against such crimes, stating, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, "We will hold sexual predators accountable for the torment they inflict on innocent children. Our HSI special agents will continue to investigate crimes of exploitation in collaboration with our law enforcement partners. We are working everyday toward justice for the victims and survivors of these crimes wherever they may be." The investigation, as well as the prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorneys Zachary Zurek and Ann Nee, illustrates the collaboration between agencies to bring such criminals to justice.

Restitution matters linked to Blake's case are currently being overseen by Jessica Nathan, following the extensive investigation by Homeland Security Investigations that ultimately led to the sentencing. The severity of Blake's actions, which involved children he was frequently babysitting, has been met with a significant prison term, acknowledging the gravity of offenses against society's most vulnerable.
