The City of Burien has kicked off its fifth annual National Welcoming Week, celebrating the rich tapestry of its community from September 12-21, 2025. According to the City of Burien, National Welcoming Week is an initiative helmed by Welcoming America, designed to bring together neighbors, including immigrants, to foster inclusive communities.

Since joining Welcoming America in 2021, Burien has carved out space for this distinct effort, being one of the initial cities in the region to host a dedicated event. On Monday, Councilmember Alex Andrade presented a proclamation, declaring Welcoming Week in Burien, accepted by the owners of Tori Sake & Grill, and celebrated in the city.

Under the theme "Stories We Share," this year's shindig promises a slew of interactive experiences, including cultural performances and activities. The City of Burien, in cahoots with Discover Burien, is setting the stage for a community fête in Town Square Park today, offering an array of attractions from games and crafts to a resource fair. And of course, what's a soiree without food?

The event also allows attendees to meet Burien’s Community Connectors—representatives of the Spanish, Vietnamese, and Amharic language communities—and to learn about City services directly from City staff
