A welfare check in Canyon Country escalated into a substantial drug bust after a community member noticed a man unresponsive in his vehicle and called the authorities. According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station's Facebook page, upon arrival, the deputy discovered the individual with a conspicuous bag of methamphetamine beside him, despite his protests of being fine.
Further investigation of the car revealed a more extensive collection of illegal substances. The vehicle contained cocaine, nitrous oxide, drug paraphernalia, an undisclosed amount of cash, and notably, a large quantity of fentanyl that was enough to produce roughly 3,000 lethal doses, as detailed by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
The 35-year-old man, whose identity has not been released to the public, faces several felony and misdemeanor charges related to drug possession and trafficking. "Thanks to an alert community member and the swift actions of our deputy, a dangerous supply of fentanyl was taken off the streets, potentially saving countless lives," a statement on the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station's post read.
