
A Dr Pepper mural was recently discovered in Lufkin, East Texas, during a demolition project on a former jailhouse. The contractor found the mural while preparing the building for redevelopment, and it may date back nearly a century, according to KHOU. Dr Pepper, the soda brand, was founded in 1885 in Waco, Texas.
Lufkin city officials are exploring ways to preserve a historic mural. "The City of Lufkin recognizes the historic importance of this mural, and we’re currently exploring opportunities to preserve it," city officials said on Lufkin's Instagram account. The Dr Pepper Museum said, "They have been in touch with city officials," as the future of the mural is being considered, as reported by KHOU.
A historic mural in Lufkin featuring slogans like "drink a bite to eat," "good for life," and "safe for children" is under consideration for preservation. City officials said, "While we can’t yet confirm the outcome, we’re optimistic and grateful for the chance to re-engage with this unique piece of our past," and advised residents to "stay tuned as we work through the possibilities." The mural’s discovery comes as Dr Pepper, Texas’ top soda in 2023, plans to split Keurig Dr Pepper into "two sharply focused beverage companies," CEO Tim Cofer said, as mentioned by Chron.
