A man from Chase, Michigan, has been sentenced in connection with a case involving serious criminal behavior. Jody Lee Brocker, 55, will see the next 150 months to 20 years behind bars, following his guilty plea for the sexual assault of a minor relative.
The Michigan Attorney General's office announced the legal conclusion of this case, which unfolded at Brocker's residence in 2024. After a guilty plea was entered this past July for one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. Nessel, in her remarks, underlined the commitment of her office to assisting local prosecutors, particularly in times of need, such as the present vacancy in the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Despite assisting with cases across Michigan and providing appellate support to 50 counties, Nessel raised concerns about proposed budget cuts. She indicated that the reductions could further strain the already heavy caseloads and limited resources of state prosecutors. Still, she expressed optimism that the Legislature will pass a budget that upholds the Department’s commitment to protecting communities and supporting victims of crime.
The Department of Attorney General assumed prosecutorial responsibilities in Lake County after a resignation in early June, with plans to maintain support until the position is filled—or until October 1, when a potential state government shutdown or major budget cuts may take effect.
