Chatham County is calling on its residents to weigh in on the Cape Fear Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. In a session set for September 30, the community is invited to share its experiences and concerns regarding natural disasters. From floods to wildfires, the plan aims to address the array of threats that locals might face, and public feedback is considered a crucial part of the equation, says the Chatham County Emergency Management.
The gathering will take place at 6 p.m. at the Chatham County Emergency Operations Center on 112 Innovation Way in Pittsboro, NC. The emergency management team emphasizes the importance of learning about local hazard risks, and, crucially, to help prioritize projects to keep the community safe. "Learn about local hazard risks and what is being done to reduce them," urges the team while inviting locals to "share your experiences and concerns about hazards in your area."
For those who can't make it to the session on September 30, Chatham County doesn't want your voice to go unheard. Residents have the opportunity to complete a brief survey online which will also contribute to the regional hazard plan. According to Chatham County's announcement, the survey can be filled out at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CapeFear2025, and the deadline is set for October 3. This is part of the broader effort to involve locals directly in shaping the strategies that will protect their homes and neighborhoods.
The Cape Fear Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan is more than just a document; it's a roadmap to resilience against unforeseen natural events that can disrupt and devastate. The goal is multifaceted: identify vulnerabilities, assess risks, and forge policies that safeguard life and property throughout the local communities.
