Steve Wolfson, Clark County's long-time leading prosecutor, has declared his intention to stay the course, seeking re-election in 2026 for a position he has held since 2012. As reported by News 3 Las Vegas, Wolfson, with over four decades of legal service behind him, stepped into the electoral ring once again, reminiscing about his start in the office. "Forty-five years ago, today, I walked into the District Attorney's office as a young law clerk, never imagining that one day I would lead this institution," and he added with clear resolve, "Today, it is the honor of my life to serve as your District Attorney, and I am proud to officially announce that I am running for re-election."
Under Wolfson's tenure, the Clark County DA's office has been a hive of prosecutorial activity; it is responsible for the oversight of nearly 800 employees who manage about 140,000 cases each year. Such a hefty caseload necessitates strength and resilience at the helm, and these numbers illustrate the sizeable impact the office has within the justice system while also highlighting Wolfson's significant responsibility within this ecosystem. 8 News Now reports that Wolfson underscored the needs of the community, stating, "In these uncertain times, Las Vegas faces real challenges," and he assured, "Our community needs a District Attorney with experience, balance, and the right temperament to make the tough but fair decisions. That’s what I’ve worked to bring every day since I’ve become the District Attorney."
Wolfson's career has been multifaceted, having served as a deputy district attorney, an assistant U.S. attorney, and in private defense prior to rising as the district attorney. His experience spans the full width of legal perspectives, which he would argue equips him with the nuanced understanding necessary to administer justice fairly. With no term limits in Clark County, incumbents like Wolfson can keep seeking reelection, leaving voters to decide between experience and new leadership.
