Clark County is gearing up to bridge students to higher education as Commissioner William McCurdy II collaborates with the United College Action Network (U-CAN) to bring the 26th Annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities Recruitment Fair to the local community. Set for Saturday, September 13, at the Doolittle Community Center, the fair is poised to connect students with representatives from over 30 HBCUs. According to the official announcement, attendees will have the opportunity to explore a multitude of academic programs and scholarship options from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In a statement obtained by Clark County, Commissioner McCurdy emphasized the potential impact of the fair, asserting, "This partnership represents our commitment to ensuring all students in Clark County regardless of zip code have access to quality higher education opportunities." The initiative aims to highlight the achievements of HBCUs and the successful graduates they have produced, who continue to contribute to their communities significantly. The event targets high school juniors and seniors specifically, urging them to come prepared with transcripts and, when available, SAT or ACT scores to potentially receive on-the-spot admissions and scholarships.

Participating universities boast a diverse array of educational opportunities, featuring institutions such as Alabama A&M University, Grambling State University, and Howard University. In a move to streamline the application process, many of the HBCUs accept the Common Black College Application, allowing students to save time and resources. The fair is not only free but also accepts on-site registration for all students, promising to be an inclusive event fostering educational advancement.

Application fee waivers are offered to help reduce some of the costs associated with higher education. Students can pre-register online at gotocollegefairs.swoogo.com/ucan-registration.
