Costco is pulling its Kirkland Signature Ahi Wasabi Tuna Poke from the shelves after discovering a potential listeria contamination. The products subject to recall were distributed in clear plastic containers with a pack date of Sept. 18, 2025, and a sell-by date of Sept. 22, 2025, as reported by NBC New York. This decision to recall comes on the heels of a separate Costco recall of Kirkland brand Prosecco in certain states due to bottles potentially shattering.

Over 3,314 pounds of the tuna poke are implicated, and according to USA Today, this recall affects Costco warehouse stores across more than 30 states, the tuna was packaged under item number 17193, the product in question can cause listeriosis which is a serious infection caused by consuming food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, and no illnesses have been reported at the time of the recall.

Customers who have purchased the Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke are advised by Costco to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it; they can also visit their local Costco warehouse for a full refund. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism capable of causing significant health issues, even fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems, as specified by the recall notice on Costco's website and the alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The contamination was traced back to green onions included in the poke, with the green onion supplier having alerted the authorities to a positive test result for listeria, "We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause," the FDA said in its report.
