A Detroit man in his 60s is recovering after what authorities are calling a potential kidnapping and violent attack that ended with him being rescued from a burning SUV. According to ClickOnDetroit, the man was found naked and bound inside his GMC Yukon, which had been set ablaze in the 18000 block of Mt. Elliott Street.
Details gathered by CBS News Detroit indicate the man was initially outside his home in the 8700 block of Vernor Highway when he was taken against his will. He was discovered over an estimated 10 miles away from his home, leading authorities to investigate a wide radius. His wife, found uninjured at their residence, could offer no immediate explanation for the violent event.
Detroit police have not released details on the man's specific injuries or how he came to be inside the vehicle. Nonetheless, the urgency of the situation and the brutality suggested by the crime scene have prompted a city-wide appeal for information. Barry Smith, who resides near where the SUV was found, provided eyewitness testimony: "He was able to stand up. He was naked. They put cloth, put a sheet over him. They put him on the gurney, put him in an ambulance," Smith recounted in an interview with ClickOnDetroit.
As the Detroit Police Department continues its investigation, they have asked anyone with information to come forward. Those who have details regarding the incident can contact the Detroit Police Department's Fourth Precinct or Crime Stoppers of Michigan.
