Motivation for the pedestrian's presence on the freeway remains unknown at this time. Lt. Mike Shaw of the MSP underscored the dangers of such actions, per the MSP Second District, "We want to remind the community that it is never a good idea to walk along the freeway and in fact it is illegal." The investigation into the events leading up to the accident is ongoing, awaiting the medical examiner's reports, as described in the MSP social media post.
Following the accident, southbound I-75 was closed for several hours to allow for an in-depth investigation, but has since been reopened. The Detroit Police have not yet determined why the individual was on the freeway. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks of pedestrian traffic on such high-speed roadways. In a statement obtained by the Detroit Free Press, Lt. Shaw reiterated the illegality and dangers of walking on the freeway. The Michigan State Police continue their work, piecing together the last moments of a life lost prematurely on an autumn night in Detroit.
