The Detroit Red Wings have unveiled their Centennial uniform to mark the team’s 100-year history. The franchise began in 1926 as the Detroit Cougars, later became the Detroit Falcons, and adopted the Red Wings name in 1932. The uniform was designed by the Red Wings and Fanatics and reflects different parts of the team’s history, as reported by The Detroit News,

The Detroit Red Wings’ Centennial jerseys include design elements from different eras of the team’s history. The Olde English “D” comes from the 1926–27 Cougars, while striping patterns are based on the 1930–32 Detroit Falcons. The chain-stitched Winged Wheel first appeared in 1932, and the jerseys also feature leather-like accents resembling older goalie equipment. The inside hem lists the team’s eleven Stanley Cup-winning years. Red Wings President and CEO Ryan Gustafson told WXYZ, “This design honors the traditions that make Red Wings hockey truly distinctive, while incorporating meaningful details to celebrate this remarkable milestone in a way that stays authentic to Detroit."

The Detroit Red Wings Centennial jerseys are available for pre-order at ShopHockeytown.com. The team will wear the uniforms starting October 9 against the Montreal Canadiens and in more than a dozen games this season. The jerseys include a matte red helmet with a vintage Meijer logo decal from 1957–1966. Ryan Gustafson said, “We believe this uniform will serve as a powerful reminder of our history, while inspiring anticipation for the memorable moments yet to come,” as mentioned by WXYZ.
