Reports of misconduct rattling the Detroit Tigers organization have surfaced, with accusations levelled at several men, including top executives. According to WWJ Newsradio 950, an investigation by The Athletic alleges misconduct by at least eight individuals employed by the Tigers, Ilitch Sports and Entertainment, and other associated partners, involving inappropriate comments and physical confrontations.
Four vice presidents are among the accused, with allegations that include commenting on women's appearance and advising against wearing certain clothes deemed distracting by male colleagues. The Athletic's report notes that six of the accused have either resigned, were fired, or did not have their contracts renewed since 2023. Olympia Entertainment, a division of Ilitch Holdings which owns the Tigers, stated they have taken rigorous action, including employee terminations. However, some employees allege that the organization remains a "boys club," as mentioned in a statement obtained by WWJ Newsradio 950.
Amid this turbulent climate, FOX 2 Detroit has reported that Sam Menzin, an assistant general manager for the Tigers, resigned following an internal probe that confirmed he sent lewd photos to women working within the team. Fox 2's sports reporter Jennifer Hammond highlighted the swift actions taken by the organization but also noted the need for transparency and accountability from team owner Chris Ilitch.
Olympia Entertainment, representing the Tigers, issued a statement on the matter, detailed in a report by ClickOnDetroit, reinforcing their commitment to respect, safety, and inclusion. The statement read, "We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment, and when concerns are raised, we investigate promptly and take decisive action." In response to recent events, the Tigers have recognized the need to improve their workplace culture and announced a new paid maternity leave program. Starting January 1, 2026, employees will be able to take 12 weeks of fully paid maternity leave.
