Get ready to slide into charitable giving with a side of softball. The Dublin Police officers and their trusty 911 dispatchers are gearing up for the third iteration of the region's law enforcement charity event, known locally as the “Sandlot Skirmish.” Set to unfold on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive in Hilliard, the tournament is scheduled for a morning start at 10 a.m., according to details released by the City of Dublin's official news report.
With gloves and bats at the ready, the local police and fire teams from Dublin and neighboring areas like Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Washington Township, and Norwich Township are set to rally around a common goal. Through spirited rivalry and shared love for the game, they aim to raise funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation—a beacon of support for first responders and military families. Eying for the community to hit a home run with their support in this friendly competition, Dublin Officer Scott Nichelson expressed his anticipation, saying, "It’s exciting to be a part of this fundraiser for the third year now," in a statement obtained by the City of Dublin's news release. "Not only is it a great way to bring our regional community together, but it’s all going to an important cause that supports thousands of families each year."
The event is shaping up to be more than just throwing pitches and swinging bats. Attendees can look forward to a variety of attractions that include food trucks, raffles, a silent auction, and T-shirt sales. All the activities are set against the backdrop of a shared mission to foster unity and lend a hand to those who have dedicated their lives to service, marking yet another chapter of the Dublin Police Department's commitment to protection, service, and public safety in partnership with the community.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, serving as the day's beneficiary, has its roots deeply entrenched in America's post-9/11 era of resilience. Providing essential support like mortgage-free homes for Gold Star and fallen first responder families, and specially adapted smart homes for injured veterans and first responders, the charity embodies a sustained pledge to end veteran homelessness. The foundation also helps keep the legacy of 9/11 alive—fostering remembrance and ensuring the sacrifices made are never forgotten. Details regarding how one can support their cause are available through the City of Dublin's announcement.
